Your domain name should be easy to remember, yet smart enough to encompass the activities your company is doing. Ideally the name should contain your company name or even a part of it so that the surfers can easily trace your web site.

A Domain Name can contain the numbers 0-9, the letters a-z and the hyphen character ("-"). However Domain Names cannot begin or end with a hyphen. One can use uppercase or lowercase letters when registering a Domain Name, but it may occasionally run into problems if it is a mixed one i.e. mix of both upper and lowercase, depending on the exact configuration of the web server that will be hosting the web site.

A Domain Name can contain up to 67 characters, although some Domain registrars have still not re-configured their services to accommodate these longer Domain Names (Domain Names used to be limited to 26 characters until 1999). This 67 character limit includes the "." (Dot) and the top level Domain. Some top Domain Names from specific countries have additional limitations on length and on the number of characters in a Domain. Some even specify a minimum length for a Domain Name, such as 3 characters or so. All domain names end with an extension; such as: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .co.uk and .us etc.
Sometimes, when all you have to choose from are cheap domain names, you won’t be able to get the exact domain name that you want, but something close is better than nothing, and you can always set up a way to redirect users to the domain name that you want, should you be able to get a hold of it in the future.
